When I started Scripted Jewelry seven years ago, I was newly widowed with an infant and no job or much money for childcare. I had to get scrappy and use what I knew to keep my head above water.
I knew jewelry. I took my sorrow and grief and built something amazing. I was able to help other's memorialize their loved ones and heal myself in the process.
Scripted Jewelry took off!
Unfortunately, it didn't take long to realize I was in over my head.
As a maker, what I didn't know was business (or social media, photography, html code, copywriting, graphic design, management and so many other aspects that go into this particular job). I self taught and powered through it all.
Every hour of every day was filled up with learning and attempting, failing and relearning all of those things on top of the production, by hand, to order of a steady influx of custom jewelry.
I worked that way steadily for years, never ceasing, getting increasingly more stressed out, feeling the knots in my back harden into stone, hydrating on coffee and wine to keep my sanity and reinventing the wheel way more times than I would like too admit. The weight of so many hats began to wear on me and it became clear that I was burnt out and something wasn't working.
I needed to step away and pin point how I can work smarter and bring you a business, product and customer service that I am proud to stand behind.
So what has changed?
Everything is now laser engraved!
This is super exciting! I can produce your items faster and more accurately than the old fashion acid bath method I've used for years. The precision of this machine is astounding and you wont be disappointed. Even the tiniest handwritten pieces come out with crystal clarity!
No more reliefs.
The production process has changed and it unfortunately, doesn't work with the new state of affairs. However, after 6000+ of pieces of handwriting jewelry under my belt, I've become quite good at laying out your customization in a way that keeps true to the original writing you provide, while also offering you the best visibility and design possible. I know the piece we are creating together is meant to commemorate someone very important to you. I do not take that responsibility lightly and I vow to treat the design of your item with great care and provide you with a product that you will cherish for years to come.
Lower prices and faster turnaround!
That pretty much speaks for it's self.
New website and branding!
Designing your custom piece can be a bit overwhelming and I hope that the new site is more user friendly and easier to navigate.
New easy communication!
There is also quick access to my FAQs. I hope to continue to add to these and offer you a wealth of knowledge on Scripted Jewelry's products, processes and promises.
Defined work hours.
I need days to step away, to watch my children grow or to get more than three hours of sleep a night. I will be out of the office on weekends and 5pm. I may still start at 4am, but old habits die hard.
WHAT HAS STAYED THE SAME?
All items are created by hand, by me, here in Missouri!
Complimentary re-sizings and re-finishings always!
Same great product, only better!
Want your writing in solid gold? I can do that now! Want your daughter's face on a keyring, yep.. that too! Over the next month, watch out for some great new products as I repopulate the store.
I'm still wearing all the hats!
This will probably never change, but I'm a glutton for punishment and I like it that way.
And thank you to you!
(to all of Scripted Jewelry's patrons, past, present and future)
You keep my family fed, clothed and moving forward. I am endlessly thankful for all of you who shop small and support makers and local in a time when it's easier not to. You are all amazing.
With love, Caroline
